Reconnecting With Faery

Having just received my copy of the Wings of Change Lenormand (McCracken & Arena, 2015), this seemed like the perfect time to reconnect with faery.  My faery altar got packed away when we moved house, and then the space I used for it got repurposed as a general altar, as my sacred space is split at the moment.  So, I haven't had a faery altar for a year and suddenly, perhaps with the coming of spring, feel the lack.

So, I asked my cards what I can practically do to reconnect with faery.  I decided to draw a line of seven (faery number), and to shape it like a flame, as fire is the element of action and inspiration.

Earth, Man, Snake, Lily, House, Stork, Air

This deck has four elemental cards, and two of them came up in this reading, framing the other cards!  Reading this as a line gives me, logical practicality for boundaried actions bring a peaceful transformation.  Meditating on a sense of home brings progress in the feeling of comfort, and inspiration in how to move forward.

What I get from that is the idea that I do need to be both rational and practical about this, and acknowledge how much I can actually do.  If I make big plans, I probably won't stick to them, so I have to keep it real!  What I can do is make a space in my home again for the Sidhe, and dedicate at least a little time to it daily.  I need to make it feel like somewhere they would like to spend time, and add to it regularly.

It's interesting how looking at the mirror cards puts Earth and Air together, once again practical and rational both.  Man and Stork is action to move things forward, and Snake and House is transformation of my sacred space.  Meditation in the Lily crowns it all.  So, not just about making the sacred space, but also about meditating there.

I wonder whether I could set something up in the garden, as we have a little bench under the shed's roof, where I could sit even if it was raining…  Or is that not practical enough?

  1. HI Kerry. I would love to hear from you why and how you connect with Faery (or similar beings)?. Do you experience them as energy or as ethereal beings? What do they bring into your life or what can you offer them?
I only know what I've read in the guidebooks of the Tarot of the Sidhe and the Fairies' Oracle. :)

    1. Hi Ellen, for me, connecting with faery is about connecting with spirit in nature. It's about reminding myself of the world around me, and its divine nature. And it's about feeling in tune with where I am in the world, in terms of location. I don't experience them as separate beings, more as energy. I love the thought of spirit energy looking after the local plants and wildlife, there being something more there than just Darwin, just as I feel there is more there in us humans, too. :)

    2. Thanks for elaborating on this subject I think I can relate to your viewpoint. So faeries are the personification this conscious spirit energy?
Much like elves and gnomes who live on this side of the ocean :)

    3. For me, elves and gnomes are part of faery. The fae encompass all nature spirit energy, salamanders, sylphs, undines, gnomes, elves, faeries, Sidhe and more besides :) Perhaps, as with the Goddess, they are all different manifestations to suit the season/element/location/person...

  2. Very pretty deck. It's good to connect to things that we've neglected. That's the fun part of ritual, I think. Having that connection and acknowledgement there. I have a sort of mini-altar on top of my tarot cabinet. It has Tea Leaf Fortune Cards on it, and they are topics that I'm working on having a healing or positive focus on. It's a good affirmative sort of action. Good luck! Hugs!

    1. Love the sound of your mini-altar, MM. As you know, I often have healing spells on mine, too :) Hope they help!
      Hugs to you,

  3. Setting up a space outside sounds like a lovely idea! With Beltane approaching, what a perfect time to bring this space back into your home/garden as well. I have just begun working with faery and incorporating fae elements into my altar space. It's been a beautiful and healing process for me. I have to ask, are you planning on returning to making YouTube videos at any point? This is how I discovered you, when I was looking up the Wild Wisdom of the Faery Oracle. I love your videos so much and they have helped me tremendously...but I noticed its been a long time since you shared one. I am new to the blog, so I apologize in advance if you have already written about why you stopped. I just love what you share though about your altars and how you use the cards in your altar space and for spell work. It's beautiful and has taught me a lot. I don't know anyone else on this journey so having YouTube has been a real gift! Anyways, thank you for sharing!!

    1. Hi Elizabeth!

Many thanks for your kind comments, I'm so glad you've enjoyed my videos and altar posts. As for why I haven't posted videos in ages, they take a long time to edit. I had a little boy just over a year ago, and so my time has been much more constrained. I was thinking about doing another one just a few days ago… we'll see :)

Anyhow, hope you'll enjoy the blog in the meantime!
